Pixel pitch viewing distance chart
The chart applies three common conventions to each pitch. The minimum distance (1 m per mm) is where the pixel grid is still clearly visible; the comfortable range (2–3 m per mm) is where most buyers accept the image for text and video; the visual-acuity distance (about 3.4 m per mm) is where a viewer with normal eyesight can no longer separate individual pixels.

The visual-acuity figure comes from the fact that normal vision resolves about one arcminute: a pixel of pitch p stops being visible at roughly p × 3,438. None of these numbers is a quality guarantee. Bright, high-contrast text shows the pixel grid at longer distances than video does, and some viewers are more sensitive than others.

A pitch that is finer than your audience can use is money spent on detail nobody sees. Halving the pitch roughly quadruples the number of pixels per square metre; for indoor walls, going from P2.5 to P1.25 more than doubles the price per m² (US$684 to US$1,515 on EA640F2). How to measure your viewing distances
Record three positions:
- The closest normal viewer, such as the front row, an operator desk or a shopper walking past. This sets the pitch.
- The typical viewer, where most people spend most of their time. This is where the image has to look its best.
- The farthest viewer who must read essential text. This sets screen height and content size.
A wall can have a fine pitch and still fail if the text is too small for the back row.
Calculate the resolution from pitch and wall size
Divide the screen width in millimetres by the pitch to estimate horizontal pixels, and do the same for height. A 4,000 mm wide surface at 2.5 mm pitch is about 1,600 pixels wide. The final order must use whole modules and cabinets, so ask the supplier for the cabinet map and its exact native resolution: pitch labels are often rounded, and the module pixel matrix is what counts.

Filmed walls need extra care: a pitch that looks fine to the eye can produce moiré on camera at certain distances and focal lengths. Use the LED video wall moiré camera test before you order.
Run a useful sample test
Ask for the exact offered model and pitch, not a premium demonstration unit. Set the sample to the planned brightness and view it under comparable room light. Bring your original content files and, where relevant, your own camera. Inspect from each measured distance and from side seats.
